Jatinangor, June 9, 2026 – University life is often associated with lectures, assignments, and academic achievement. But for Tia Oktavia, a 2023 Agrotechnology student at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, it has also been a journey of self-discovery, one that has encouraged her to step beyond her comfort zone and embrace new challenges.
That journey recently led her to the Putri Hijabfluencer Jawa Barat 2026 competition, where she earned a place among the Top 5 finalists and received a nomination for Putri Hijab Intelegensia. Yet, for Tia, the achievement is about more than recognition. It represents a process of growth, learning, and discovering confidence in her own potential. “I used to think there were many things I couldn't do. But when I finally dared to try, I discovered abilities I never knew I had,” said Tia.
Her introduction to the pageant world began with a simple curiosity to explore opportunities beyond academics. Starting with the Putri Pertanian 2025, she gradually expanded her horizons through Putra Putri Padjadjaran and regional pageants, each experience teaching her something new about herself.
Along the way, Tia learned that pageantry is not merely about appearance or stage presence. It is a space that challenges participants to strengthen their communication skills, think critically, build confidence, and become individuals who can inspire others. “The biggest change was the way I see myself. I became more confident in expressing my opinions, speaking in public, and taking opportunities when they came,” she said.
Balancing these experiences with academic responsibilities was not always easy. As an Agrotechnology student, Tia juggles lectures, laboratory work, assignments, and campus activities. To stay on track, she relies on careful planning and clear priorities, allowing her to manage her commitments while continuing to pursue new opportunities.
Beyond her activities outside the classroom, Tia has also found a strong sense of purpose in her studies. Her interest in soil science, particularly soil chemistry, stems from a passion for science and a desire to contribute to a field that plays a vital role in people's lives.
Reflecting on her journey, Tia believes that courage is often the starting point of growth. Many people, she said, hesitate to pursue opportunities because they fear failure or feel unprepared. Yet, true readiness is often built through experience rather than achieved before it. “Great changes can begin with a small act of courage. What matters is not how perfect your first step is, but whether you are willing to take it,” she said.
This is the message she hopes to share with fellow students who may still be hesitant to try something new. “We all have potential within us. Do not let fear of failure or fear of being judged prevent you from showing what you are capable of. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep trying. You will never know how far you can go until you give yourself the chance,” she said.
Tia compares human potential to gold valuable, yet often hidden beneath self-doubt. “We are all like gold. The value is already there, but it will remain unseen if we never dare to bring it to the surface. So, do not be afraid to try, do not be afraid to fail, and do not be afraid to grow,” she added.
For Tia, every experience is an opportunity to learn. Her journey demonstrates that education extends beyond classrooms and textbooks; it is also shaped by challenges, experiences, and the courage to grow. Through her achievements in personal development, she embodies the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality, which encourage individuals to unlock their potential, embrace lifelong learning, and contribute meaningfully to society. Her story serves as a reminder that growth often begins with a single step, the courage to try.
