Gunung Jambu Sustainability Initiatives Mark the Beginning of Collaboration between Unpad Faculty of Agriculture and Perhutani KPH Sumedang

Jatinangor, July 24, 2026 — Mahatva of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), held an “Audience Meeting and Presentation on the Gunung Jambu Sustainability Initiatives” with Perum Perhutani Regional Division of West Java and Banten, Forest Management Unit (KPH) Sumedang, on Friday (July 24). Held at the KPH Sumedang Office, the meeting marked an important first step in strengthening collaboration between academia and Perhutani to support the sustainable management of the Gunung Jambu Forest area.

The meeting followed directives from Perhutani's Regional Division of West Java and Banten regarding the development of the Gunung Jambu Forest management plan, which involves the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, and Mahatva. The collaboration is intended to support the implementation of the university's Tri Dharma; education, research, and community engagement, through a range of environmentally sustainable programs.

During the session, the Mahatva team presented the Gunung Jambu Sustainability Initiatives, an integrated program designed to promote sustainable forest management by emphasizing environmental conservation, community empowerment, and the enhancement of academic activities. The initiative is expected to serve as a collaborative platform for academics, government institutions, local communities, and strategic partners in advancing sustainable natural resource management.

The audience meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, Dr. Ahmad Choibar Tridakusumah or commonly known as Kang Trida M.021 AK; Chair of Mahatva's Normative Council, Kang Jakty Kusuma M.124 Serigala; Mahatva Community Assistance Team member, Fahmi Azkiya M.195 Kangguru; Project Coordinator, Ilham AS Siregar M.218 Kalajengking; Head of KPH Sumedang, Didin Rohidin; Head of Business Development Section, Ayat Hadiyat; Head of Legal and Corporate Communication Section, Jaenudin; and Head of Partnership Section, Novita Mellinia.

Throughout the meeting, both parties discussed opportunities for collaboration in managing the Gunung Jambu Forest, including the development of research programs, field-based learning activities, and community empowerment initiatives for communities surrounding the forest area. The discussion is expected to lay the groundwork for implementing programs that generate long-term ecological, social, and academic benefits. 

Through this audience meeting, the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, and Perhutani KPH Sumedang reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cross-sector partnerships in promoting sustainable forest management. The initiative also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through experiential learning opportunities, SDG 15 (Life on Land) by supporting the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened collaboration among higher education institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance sustainable development.
