The Faculty of Agriculture at Padjadjaran University (Unpad) is once again taking part in applying irrigation science in the agricultural sector to boost farmer productivity in Jatisura Village, Cikedung District. This was done during an event to officially open and hand over agricultural infrastructure to the Local Government, which was received through the Indramayu Regency Government.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday (11/9/2025), was attended by Indramayu Regent, Lucky Hakim. SKK Migas Deputy of Business Support, Eka Bhayu Setta, stated that this synergy marks a new chapter in cooperation between the oil and gas sector and local government. The project aims to increase the Planting Index (IP) from 1 to 3, making it easier for farmers to plant crops year-round, even during the dry season. This initiative is based on meticulous research by Unpad's Faculty of Agriculture.
The Faculty of Agriculture, represented by Vice Dean for Resources and Organization, Prof. Rija Sudirja, SP., M.T., fully endorsed the project as a follow-up to a feasibility study on the land conversion of the Sustainable Food Agriculture Land (LP2B). The replacement land prepared even exceeded the required area, increasing from 86 hectares to 114 hectares, which will further strengthen food production in Indramayu.
"Vast land will not be productive without water availability, so the development of this irrigation infrastructure is a key focus. We have already built 5 groundwater well units, and each will produce a specific water output. During operation, each well will have a pump house and a powered machine to better guarantee the agricultural water supply in Jatisura Village. All of this is a direct result of the strategic feasibility study on the sustainable food agriculture land conversion," said Rija Sudirja.
The representative from the Ministry of Agriculture, Luqhtul Hakim, also emphasized Indramayu's strategic position as a national rice barn. Indramayu is the number one rice producer in West Java. He added that the program is in line with efforts to maintain national food and energy self-sufficiency. This activity has a strong correlation with several points of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. This synergy demonstrates how various parties can work effectively together to achieve sustainable development goals, creating a positive long-term impact for farmers and national food security as a whole.
