Innovative Technology for Coffee Quality and Sustainability Supporting Global Goals
Researchers have investigated the potential of Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) to determine caffeine and chlorogenic acid (CGA) levels in coffee beans. The study demonstrates that NIRS is a fast, accurate, and non-destructive tool for chemical analysis, which reduces reliance on conventional, chemical-intensive methods. This supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Led by Kusumiyati, K, the research suggests that adopting NIRS in coffee industries can improve efficiency in quality control while lowering environmental impact. This advancement supports sustainable coffee production practices and provides farmers, producers, and consumers with higher-quality products in a cost-effective and eco-friendly way.
