The “Magister of Agricultural Economics Program (PS Magister Ekonomi Pertanian)” is one of the three postgraduate programs that was established at Padjadjaran University on July 23, 1979. The permission to conduct master’s and doctoral programs at the Graduate Program of Padjadjaran University, including the Magister of Agricultural Economics Program, was issued on November 24, 1993, in accordance with the decree from the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, No. 849/DIKTI/Kep/1993.

As part of Padjadjaran University, since its establishment to the present day, the Magister of Agricultural Economics Program has undergone changes in its vision, mission, educational objectives, and management structure, in alignment with changes in the university’s vision, mission, and governance at the university level. Since 2010, the management of the Magister of Agricultural Economics Program, which was originally under the Graduate Program of Padjadjaran University, has been delegated to the Faculty of Agriculture at Unpad, based on the Rector’s Decree No. 1307/H6.1/Kep/HK/2009.

In terms of institutional development, the adjustments in the vision and mission of the Magister of Agricultural Economics Program were made in response to several government policies, especially from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti). These policies include Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012 on the Indonesian Qualifications Framework (Kerangka Kualifikasi Indonesia), Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 73 of 2013 on the Implementation of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia), Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 3 of 2020 on the National Standards for Higher Education (Standar Nasional Pendidikan Tinggi – SNPT), and Numbers 4 and 6 of 2020 on Free Campus (Kampus Merdeka). This adjustment is also a response to the change in the status of Unpad from a public university (PTN) to a Public Service Agency (BLU) and a state-owned legal entity (PTNBH), as well as the integration of the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek) with the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikti) into the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti).

These adjustments are also made in response to global demands related to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Philosophically, the formulation of the vision and mission of the Magister of Agricultural Economics Program at Padjadjaran University is based on the university’s Basic Scientific Pattern (Pola Ilmiah Pokok – PIP), which is “Fostering Excellence in Law and the Environment,” the Long-Term Development Plan of Padjadjaran University 2007-2026, as well as the Faculty of Agriculture Unpad’s Strategic Plan and Work Plan 2015-2019.
