The Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences was established on July 23, 1979, coinciding with the establishment of the Postgraduate Program at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad). Starting from 2008, the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences has been managed by the Faculty of Agriculture at Unpad. The program received an A accreditation based on the decision of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 1931/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/D/III/2020 dated March 31, 2020. The accreditation certificate for this program is valid from March 29, 2020, to March 29, 2025.

The learning system in the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences prioritizes research as its learning method, known as a by-research program. The study period for the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences is a maximum of 14 semesters (7 years). However, the curriculum of the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences has been designed to enable students to graduate in 6-8 semesters (3-4 years). Graduates of the doctoral program in agricultural sciences have competent and independent skills as academics, researchers, bureaucrats, and/or experts in sustainable agricultural sciences. They also possess problem-solving abilities through research with interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches that are recognized nationally and internationally.
