A student from the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Padjadjaran Diyah Sri Utami, is participated as a Young Professional from Indonesia in the Joint International Research Project (JIRP), part of the Rural Youth Climate Action Movement (RYCAM) initiative. The program was conducted in several stages, beginning with research activities in Germany from June to July, followed by field research in Indonesia from August to October in Pangandaran (West Java) and Toraja (South Sulawesi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the initial phase in Germany, the multidisciplinary research team, facilitated by the Centre for Rural Development (SLE), Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin, developed a conceptual framework for agroecology-based net-zero farming. The activities included literature reviews, policy analysis of Indonesia\u2019s AFOLU sector and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), as well as the development of greenhouse gas emission calculators adapted to smallholder farming conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the field research phase in Indonesia, the team conducted various data collection activities, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), in-depth interviews, and discussions with experts and stakeholders. The research focused on assessing the technical and economic feasibility of net-zero farming practices, with key commodities including black rice, katokkon chili, shallots, and chili.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The findings indicate that organic farming practices have significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reaching over 80\u201390% in several cases, although challenges remain in terms of productivity and access to premium markets. The project produced several important outputs, including bilingual scientific reports, an emission reduction potential database, and strategic recommendations to support youth engagement in building low-emission agricultural systems.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
